It’s no secret that many would prefer to receive a piece of cold, hard plastic cash than an ugly sweater on Christmas morning.

According to a recent Forbes report, student loan marketplace LendEDU compiled a list of the top giftcards, based on the following criteria: – card popularity (via Google search ranking), – average purchase discount for buyers, – average resale value, – and contentedness upon receiving the gift card (as determined from a survey of 500 consumers).

The study shows large retailers, like Target, Walmart, and Amazon, are unsurprisingly popular, due mostly to their large Google search volume. Fast food restaurants also proved popular, as many are sold at large discounted prices on resale sites.

Specifically, Target topped the list, followed by GameStop, McDonald’s, Chipotle, and Chick-fil-A. Others in the top 20 included CVS, Apple, Fandango, Starbucks, and Netflix.

So, to answer the age old question: “What do you buy for the person who has everything?” When all else fails, give ‘em a gift card.
