Switching out your kitchen cabinet hardware is one of the easiest ways to alter the look of your space. Especially if you’re a renter, it’s pretty easy to make the change without causing any permanent damage—and potentially jeopardizing your deposit.

But when you start tackling your kitchen makeover and find millions of results from a Google search, it’s hard to know which hardware is best. So we’re calling it: Matte black finishes aren’t just having a moment (as design pros Studio McGee and Brian Paquette say), they’re a choice you’ll love today—and 10 years from now.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorites spanning style and function. Here are a few things to look for on your quest for the best black kitchen cabinet hardware.

Best Black Kitchen Cabinet Knobs

Cabinet knobs are tried and true. Like an old friend, they’ve been there since the beginning and are always ready to lend a hand as you open the cupboard that hides your favorite coffee mug. Their compact and usually round form can come across as traditional, but look for varying shapes and materials to modernize the look. Think: recycled brass, textured aluminum for an organic touch, or marble with just a hint of golden glam.

Best Black Kitchen Cabinet Handles

Longer drawers and cabinet doors call for handles. Typically long and skinny, a handle finished in matte black contrasting against a lighter cabinet makes for a chic combination. When you’re buying cabinet handles, look for selections that are weighty and easy to grasp.

But they don’t have to be generic. Square off their edges for a more modern look, go with an oval to keep it sculptural, or choose brass edges if you’re feeling a little extra. And if you are switching out the old hardware on your existing cabinets, just remember to measure the distance between the holes already in place.

Best Black Kitchen Cabinet Pulls

If hardware is jewelry for your cabinets, then pulls are the oversize cuff you wear when you really want to make a statement. Pulls are good for heavier cabinetry that needs extra support, like your pots and pans drawer. Whether you’re going full-on modern farmhouse with a traditional cup pull, boho chic with a half-moon shape, or rustic-modern with vegetable-tanned leather, you’ll want to get your hands on one of these options.
