With a line of activewear that just launched at Target, Limited Edition C9 Champion by Anna Kaiser, celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser, founder of the AKT In Motion workout method (which boasts four studio locations), is always on the move. And now, with a four-week-old baby boy named Brooks, she really has her hands full. We checked in with the NYC-based dancer and trainer, who has toned the bodies of Shakira and Kelly Ripa, to see how she winds down on the weekends and what she does in order to reset for the week ahead.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

These days my little buddy, Brooks, wakes me up with his tiny coos, signaling that it’s time for breakfast. So I grab myself some water with lemon, a green juice, and sometimes coffee and feed him for the next 30 minutes or so. Even when I can barely crack an eyelid open, seeing his tiny face makes me jump to my feet with love and excitement for what the day will bring.

What are your favorite things to do for yourself on the weekends?

These days, I love getting outside. It is beautiful in NYC, and most of the week I am inside working and taking care of my newborn. So getting out and fitting in a workout at my studio, AKT, is a DREAM! On Saturday, I love hitting up Ebony’s AKTone or Ryan’s Sweat Dream class at the NoMad studio. It gets my endorphins pumping and gets me ready for an incredible weekend. Then, I meet up with my husband for a walk in the park with the baby and (possibly!) a quick brunch or dinner at home with friends. We also make sure to get our much needed errands in between feedings and attempt to catch up on some sleep while we alternate taking the night shift. It’s a busy home over here, but it’s so lovely to get the chance to spend time together as a family on weekends.

How do you deal when you’re away for the weekend?

Going away for the weekend has changed dramatically. Now, we make sure that when we head off, we are going to a location that’s calm, quiet, and safe for a newborn that allows us to completely decompress and recharge. My husband and I will fit in a strength workout together in the hotel from the AKT On Demand app while the baby is sleeping. And, the best part is, we’ve been bringing him with us everywhere, so he’s used to sleeping with noise and chaos! A friend gave me some really good advice. She said, “Invite the baby into your life. Don’t change your life to accommodate the baby.” And, you know what?  It’s working!

What are the activities or errands on your “must-accomplish list” every weekend?

We try to check off groceries, projects, and shopping for the baby, home organizing, Facetiming with family, showers (yep: it’s now a “goal”), a little catching up on work and hitting our favorite coffee shop for a refill on the roast of the week. As entrepreneurs, being able to go with the flow and not be committed to a tight schedule for a couple of days is a true luxury, even if we aren’t able to check everything off.

What do you do on Sundays to prepare for the week ahead?

I love to cook, but with a hectic week and an unpredictable newborn schedule, I almost never get a chance during the week. Sundays allow us an opportunity to chop, dice, prepare, and store premade food and snacks for the week. I usually order most of what I need on Amazon and then organize my to-do list for work. But, honestly, most of our day is spent enjoying the moment and not racing to prepare for another week. We keep reminding ourselves to put our phones away and get outside together. These days, time goes so fast. I want to try and relish every tiny moment before it’s gone.
