Transparently, we’ve been noticing something, well, transparent happening this summer: jelly sandals, jelly manicures, and jelly shots (à la cool-kid cocktail jelly company Solid Wiggles) have been filling our feeds. So it only makes sense that the design world is participating in all the wiggly fun, too.
And while it’s true that Gaetano Pesce, the godfather of gelatinous-looking objects, has been crafting jiggly designs since the 1960s, the latest iterations feel especially of the moment. Maybe we’re just drawn to things that don’t take themselves too seriously right now. “There’s been this quiet reemergence of jelly not just as food people are eating again, but as a texture, a mood, a shape,” says Jeffrey Renz, founder of Ready to Hang. “It’s playful, a little weird, and totally unpretentious. I wanted to tap into that feeling, but make it last.”
To achieve the see-through look, many designers are reaching for resin, a lightweight-yet-durable polymer that can be molded into almost anything, from lighting to serveware. Then again, glass and plastic often channel a similar aesthetic in smaller pieces. Here, we’ve rounded up our favorite jelly-like finds.
Renz’s line of brain-bending designs just launched a new trick for the eyes: the Jelly Mirror, a resin wall reflector (available in two delectable shades) so realistic-looking that it might have you asking, “Who wants a slice?”
Even though these drawer pulls are shaped like pasta, their candy-like colors and thick U shape (2 inches wide and 4.5 inches long) make them look like they belong on a lollipop stick. The best part? You can buy them full or split to use on drawers or cabinets.
Aperitivo hour just got a glow-up. This set of six resin spreaders can cut through soft cheeses and butters, and yes, even scoop and spread jelly.
While one of Pesce’s wobbly vessels will set you back several hundred dollars (we say: worth it), his economically priced $35 coasters look like a Jell-O shot melted on your coffee table. They also make a great gift.
If Solid Wiggles made a lamp, this would be it. At 10 inches tall and streaked in sunset shades, its resin shade casts a dreamy glow in a living room or bedroom.
A little sheer and a little sparkly, this transparent take on Sabre’s iconic flatware is a fun way to add extra flavor to even weeknight meals. Bonus: They’re dishwasher safe.
Even leftovers get the jelly treatment thanks to plastic containers that resemble cubes of lime Jell-O. (It’s ok if green isn’t your thing—there are more colors and sizes to choose from.)
