Kira Corbin has been styling interiors and props for more than 15 years, shaping countless elegant, lived-in scenes for advertising, editorial, celebrity, and lifestyle clients. The Portland-based creative is particularly attuned to material and texture, which can be seen in her own line of ceramic dinnerware and table linens, Standard Affair. We count it among our new forever faves.
For each production, Corbin carefully sources pieces for anything from bedding and incense holders to tea towels and pillows—and a lot of it can be found at ABC Carpet & Home, one of her favorite places to pick up items. A long-time go-to for designers, ABC Home has its own in-house line of soft goods, tabletop, decor, and furniture, but it also stocks editor darlings like Ginori, Astier de Villatte, Hawkins New York, John Derian, and more.
Below, Corbin shares her top products to procure from the designer-loved and editor-trusted shop.
Astier de Villatte Ceramics
Astier de Villatte’s delicate, sculptural ceramics are a recurring part of my toolkit. They add sophisticated whimsy to a room.; a little something special and unique. I especially love the incense holders because of how artful and unique they are. The cup is a fun place to park small odds and ends like match books or dried botanicals.
Shelton Metal Dishes
I’m always looking for little decorative pieces that offer contrast in material and feel personal, like a tiny dish for setting on a pile of books or next to a vase on a side table, like this shell shaped dish from Shelton Metal.
Maison de Vacances Pillows
I often need to bring a few pillows to accent a sofa or bed and I love Maison de Vacances’s colors and fabrics. They add a nice textural contrast to the often more streamlined upholstery or bedding beneath. The edge hem and zippers at the bottom give them a subtle edgy feel too, so they don’t read too flouncy.
Society Limonta Blankets
Continuing on the theme of texture (a big component in my work), I love a blanket with an interesting weave and no one has as nice of a variety of colors and textures as Society Limonta. They come in throw and bed sizes so I can use them for draping over sofas or adding layers to a bed.
Artel Vases and Glassware
Flowers soften a room and make it feel more alive, so I am always bringing vases (and buckets of fresh cut stems and branches) to shoots. Artel’s glass pieces, with their vibrant colors and engraved designs, let me style flowers in an understated way. They also add dimension and interest on dining tables, side tables, and bath vanities.
Jan Burtz Serving Bowls
Similar to flowers, produce makes a kitchen feel more vibrant. I will often bring a large bowl and some perfect, in-season fruit or vegetable to pile into it. I like a handmade piece, like these ones from Jan Burtz, because it feels more intentional and the neutral color can work in any home.
Linge Particular Tea Towels
These tea towels made of 100% pre-washed linen have just the right amount of rumple to look great on camera. They look classy and lightly disheveled in an honest, real life way. Some tea towels are too stiff and others so wrinkly that it’s off putting (like seeing someone’s dirty laundry).
