Inside this charming San Clemente, CA home, an outdated kitchen space was in desperate need of a revamp. The all-white cabinets were heavily overshadowed by the lack of light and a variety of drab elements. With a plan for an elegantly contemporary remodel, designer Becki Owens set out to create a bright and refreshing space for this family of four. Take a look!

The island was extended to allow for a larger working surface. The cream counters were replaced with diamond white quartz, with a 2 ½ inch mitered edge. A large, white farmhouse sink was set to complement the polish of the counters.

Owens replaced the existing hood with a clean, stainless steel alternative, which immediately made the kitchen feel more open and airy. A marble backsplash extended up along the wall set a beautiful surround for the space.

The cabinets were refaced with white shaker style fronts and topped with sleek Schoolhouse Electric gold hardware for a hint of added shine.

What inspired this makeover?

My client wanted to take their kitchen from an ordinary looking tract home to something unique and updated.

What was the goal of the redesign?

The family was looking for a more modern and updated feel, while keeping the existing whitewashed aesthetic. My goal was to transform the kitchen into a bright and refreshing space. All within a reasonable budget!

What was your favorite part of the makeover?

I love the impact of the 3×6” Calacatta marble that extends all the way up the wall of the kitchen. It elevated the space and created a beautiful surround for the kitchen. Not only is it stunning in person, it also adds a subtle touch of pattern within an all-white kitchen.

A natural wood dining table was brought in to brighten up the kitchen nook, while providing additional seating options. A simple white pendant, hung above the table, lent a clean and bright accent to the spot.

A mix of vintage mud cloth and batik pillows instilled an inviting essence with a slew of cozy textures.

The black and white color scheme, with a touch of warm accents, instilled a fresh and polished feel to the space. The palette complemented the existing dark hardwood floors, giving the area a more refined feel.
