Y7 Yoga Founder Sarah Larson Levey Ends Each Day With 16oz of Water (and a Good Binge-Watch)

We spend a third of our lives asleep—that means our bedroom is the most lived-in space in our homes. It’s the room where we start and end our days, and that’s why the rituals that happen there are extra important. In The Wind Down, we’ll be exploring the nighttime routines of people we admire and taking their advice to make the moments just before bed feel our best.
Step into any of Y7’s 13 locations and you’ll be met with an ambiance that decidedly would not be described as “calming.” After all, Y7 is known for its hip-hop playlists, heated studios (between 80 and 90 degrees), and challenging yet fun vinyasa yoga classes. Founder Sarah Larson Levey, however, keeps things much chiller in her home.
If thumping bass and moody candlelight are crucial to the environment in Y7’s studios, then Larson Levey’s apartment is pretty much a 180. Her nighttime routine is uncomplicated and relaxing, as she enjoys a good binge-watch session, a simple skincare rotation balancing high-end natural serums with a crowd-pleasing drugstore cleanser, and a playlist comprising only the dulcet tones of a white noise machine. It’s important, after all, to wind down even after the most turbocharged days.
Below, she shares her nightly go-tos.
But first, hydrate: This is really bad because it wakes me up in the middle of the night to pee, but I always drink 16 ounces of water before I go to bed.
TV time: I’ll usually watch an hour of TV at 8:30 pm or 9 pm before I started my skincare. I like to watch something a little bit lighter before bed. Usually, I’m a true-crime junkie, but I find that it’s depressing before bed. Right now I’m binging Schitt’s Creek. It’s so funny and stupid, but it’s amazing. It’s just a nice, kind of funny way to end the day.
Skin saviors: Usually I’m not really wearing makeup during the day just because of the nature of my job. But if do, I remove it. I wash my face with Cetaphil, and then I have a cleansing pad that I use from my dermatologist, just to remove the excess dirt. I love Snowfox Skincare—it’s so good. I use the herbal-infused oil and then I follow it up with Kypris Dew. It’s one of my favorite things; I use it in the morning and at night. After I do my skincare routine, I brush my teeth and I’m usually in bed. I shower any time after I take a workout class—usually it depends on the day but usually in the morning.
Major moisturization: Before I get into my sweatpants, I always do a full-body lotion. I just use the Cetaphil jar—the thick cream. It just makes me feel like I’m ready to be in for the night.
Pajama party: I’m an old sweats kind of girl. I’ve always loved Sundry.
Nightstand needs: I have a bottle of water—always. I have an essential oil roller and I have a Himalayan salt lamp.
All-natural aromatherapy: I have a lavender essential oil roller for if I’m feeling a little bit anxious before bed or not as tired. I’ll roll that under my nose and onto my wrists and pressure points.
Best bedding: Everything on my bed is white. I have the Buffy comforter and the Parachute Home sheet set.
Soothing soundscape: I have a white noise machine in the bedroom that I use. It just makes sirens less jarring.
Wake up call: I set a bunch of alarms—I haven’t really found one that works for me, so I just use my normal phone alarm.
Lights out between 10 pm and 11 pm!
