We spend a third of our lives asleep—that means our bedroom is the most lived-in space in our homes. It’s the room where we start and end our days, and that’s why the rituals that happen there are extra important. A content creator and entrepreneur, Turner found her way into the wellness industry after noticing its lack of representation. Recently she founded FTHH, a wellness magazine that focuses on education for the masses, regardless of background, race, socioeconomic status, or gender; issue one, available now, dives into the definition of wellness, food philosophy, cooking at home, anxiety, and more. Her unique vision dismisses the sometimes conceited approach to wellness and grounds her knowledge in narratives that readers can fall in love with.
Here, Turner shares how she winds down and relaxes, from her favorite soap cubes to the softest Purple bedsheets probably ever.
Slip into something cozy: The first thing I do at night—around 7 p.m.—is throw on an oversize T-shirt. I don’t own any “normal” pajamas—XL tees are just so comfortable.
Skin rituals: I have very dry and sensitive skin, and it’s taken me a while to curate the perfect skin-care routine. And honestly, it’s still a work in progress. My go-to face wash right now is Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser. Two to three times a week I exfoliate with Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum before moisturizing with pure grape-seed oil and Weleda Skin Food—it’s the only moisturizer that keeps my skin soft and hydrated.
Lather up: When it comes to showering, I keep my products minimal and natural because of my sensitive skin. My favorite soap is sea moss and oatmeal from Terra-Tory. Once I get out of the tub, I moisturize with the brand’s pure shea nut oil, which I infuse with a few drops of lavender.
Ultra-unwind: After my skin-care routine is complete, I go in my room and turn on my Vitruvi oil diffuser; my go-to essential oils are lavender, which promotes good sleep, and geranium, which helps with stress and anxiety. Depending on the day I’ve had, I’ll either listen to music—my favorite artists right now are Giveon, Sunset Tim, and Blxst—or read a book. I’m currently reading The Healer’s Manual by Ted Andrews. It has been so enlightening and forced me to discover so much about myself and those around me.
Up in the clouds: Once I’m finally ready, I get in bed. I haven’t always been this kind of girl, but mattress quality has become a big deal to me; it’s a make-or-break for a good night’s rest. I have the Purple Hybrid Premier Mattress, which is super-plush but still supportive. Plus I love that it’s temperature neutral, so I never have to worry about being too cold or too hot. I also use the Purple Harmony Pillow—it’s the softest, fluffiest pillow I’ve ever slept on; I’ll never use another pillow again. Together they make my bed feel super-comfortable and cozy—it’s like I’m floating on a cloud, which is why I don’t actually lie down until I’m ready to go to sleep.
Melt away: Never underestimate the power of a good set of sheets. I love how the Purple SoftStretch Sheets, made from a silky-soft, moisture-wicking fabric, feel against my bare legs. My color of choice is the natural oat.
Bedside manners: On my nightstand you’ll usually find a book, my planner, AirPods, a glass of water—I am always drinking water—a digital alarm clock (that doesn’t have an alarm set), and my monstera plant.
Keep scrolling: Even though I have my phone set to “do not disturb” from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., when I first lie down, I watch TikTok videos. I am very late to TikTok and didn’t think I would ever get hooked, but I am! It’s become my guilty pleasure. Once I realize how tired I am, I put my phone down.
Mental relief: I always take a few minutes to breathe and meditate, and then I recite my healing prayer from The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. After that, I’m usually out within a matter of minutes.
