With the successful launch of a new project comes excitement, celebration, and, of course, a bit of change. Need Supply co-founder Chris Bossola took that notion quite literally to salute the retailer’s newest venture, LIFE, with a major redesign of his Virginia Beach vacation home.

LIFE is a destination for home goods meticulously curated by the Need Supply team. In that vein, Bossola’s revamped beach home features a carefully edited palette and collection of furnishings, all of which represent the clean, modern design sensibility for which the fashion and lifestyle brand is known.

Bossola and his wife purchased the Virginia Beach home, located on the North End of the historic community, in February 2015 and started the rehab immediately, he says. The renovation and design project was driven by architect Burt Pinnock and interior designer Matthew Marsili, of Richmond’s Baskervill.

“We took a clean and casual modernist approach while adding some bits of femininity,” Bossola said. “That approach works well for my wife and I as we tried to give nods to the beach while avoiding the typical shell lamp clichés.”

Notice the careful use of blue and green accents, as well as a stylish floor-to-ceiling piece of artwork featuring nautical flags, which serve as a subtle reminder of the home’s proximity to the coast.

The highly livable vacation home is designed with entertaining in mind. The open floorplan living room seamlessly feeds into the kitchen and dining area where a gray linen banquette allows for guests to cozy up to the raw wood table.

Pops of color invigorate the seemingly neutral palette. The project mimics the subtle energy and streamlined simplicity of the LIFE collection, which features designers and brands such as Eric Trine, The Laundress, Yield, Fog Linen, and Normann Copenhagen, among others.

The space is also thoughtfully designed to accommodate many guests. In addition to a bunkroom, the home features a two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest house that overlooks the pool.

Three glass doors off the main living area open up to the large, fully-furnished screened-in porch. By opening the doors, the living room transforms into a massive indoor-outdoor living area. It’s the quintessential setup for casual and comfortable entertaining.
