In 2013, husband and wife duo Scott Jarrell and Kristan Cunningham opened this brick & mortar retailer that doubles as a design firm in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. In just two short years, they have grown exponentially, with the reopening of their newly expanded 5,000 square foot showroom. Hammer and Spear features a collection of hand-picked vintage pieces and a well-edited selection of lifestyle products, while providing a platform for the work of up-and-coming LA designers to achieve site-specific designs.

mohawk general store
Los Angeles’s Mohawk General Store, founded in 2008 by husband and wife Kevin and Bo Carney, was originally on Mohawk Street (hence the name), but has relocated to the heart of Sunset Junction. The boutique’s aesthetic is less like a shop and more like a friend’s apartment with blown-glass and powder-coated steel pendant lamps that hang above glass-and-steel tables along with records and design books that line the shop’s wooden wall shelves. Shop amongst the boutique’s curated collections of apparel from SMOCK, Dries Van Noten, Mansur Gavriel, Engineered Garments, Acne, Nonative, Kathleen Whitaker, as well as wallets by Comme de Garcons and shoes by Rachel Comey.

Located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, Apolis: Common Gallery is an industrial-chic shop that sells Apolis branded menswear and accessories, and proceeds of their retail sales are donated to Global Communities, an international non-profit organization that works worldwide to bring about sustainable changes to communities. This is the first regionally branded Apolis retail space and also provides a gallery space for special events where they host regular advocate keynotes, collection releases, gallery exhibitions, and films.
