How to Hack an IKEA Wall Cabinet Into a Console Table

While the Raskog is a totally adorable wall cabinet, we put our Ikea hack brains to the test and imagined some great new possibilities for it with the addition of metal hairpin legs. The hairpin legs provide a vintage vibe that differentiates the piece and gives it custom appeal.

Materials

– Raskog wall cabinet – Hairpin legs – Screws + a screwdriver – Spray paint

Instructions

First, you’ll want to decide on your colors. For this project, we chose a bright cherry red for the body of the cabinet and a contrasting teal for the metal hairpin legs. We cleared a well-ventilated area and sprayed each piece of the cabinet as well as the legs with a few coats of the chosen colors until the color was even.

After the paint dried, we then assembled the cabinet, making sure to follow the easy IKEA instructions—except, of course, for the parts pertaining to wall-mounting.

Once the cabinet was assembled, we marked using a pencil where each leg would need to be attached. Once each spot was marked in pencil we created a hole and then screwed in each leg.

The resulting “counter console” is a perfect perch for kitchen oddities. It fits dishes and glassware easily, but could also be used in a bathroom or bedroom to hold products and tchotchkes.
