…We have a feeling it will be Field + Supply. This “modern makers craft fair” takes place in High Falls, NY, and features the work of skilled makers, creative workshops, events, and more, and is a certain feast for the eyes and treat for the home. Team domino will be heading this direction October 10-11 to attend, and to show you why we think you should be there too, we chatted with Brad Ford, the founder of Field + Supply. Basically, you should fill up your gas tank and start packing.
WE CAN’T WAIT TO ATTEND FIELD + SUPPLY. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT’S DIFFERENT THIS YEAR COMPARED TO PAST EVENTS? We’re excited about a number of new things this year, including an increase in the number of vendors who will be exhibiting. We’re planning on having almost double the number of designers and artisans from last year and the fair is expanding further into the town of High Falls. In addition, we’re offering several workshops including everything from indigo dying, to flower arranging to arrow making. We’ve also got a great Q&A being led by Julia Turshen who will be talking to Kate Arding and Mona Talbott from Talbott & Arding Cheese and Provisions in Hudson NY about how to craft your own small business.
WHAT DO YOU PERSONALLY LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS EVENT? I love all of the product offerings, but more importantly I love the actual experience. That time of year is always so beautiful with the leaves changing colors and there’s a crispness in the air that’s really great. We usually have a fire pit so people can stay warm and there’s plenty of food, beer and wine. A lot of people bring their kids and dogs and make an entire day of it. It’s really festive and a great way to celebrate the fall.
WHO IS THE IDEAL FIELD + SUPPLY SHOPPER? I think it’s anyone that appreciates beautiful design and things that are handcrafted. I find things that are made by hand have so much more beauty, meaning, and value to them.
WHAT IS THE BEST REACTION YOU’VE EVER HEARD TO FIELD + SUPPLY? I think people are always surprised at how charming the town of High Falls is and how many talented people there are in one area for those couple of days. We have artisans from the Hudson Valley, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Vermont, and more that come to show their work and there are so many beautiful things to shop for in one spot. The best reactions have been from the folks who actually live in High Falls. The town has a population of around 700 people and the locals are so appreciative to see thousands of people come visit the area. It’s a charming community and they love to show it off!
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT FIELD + SUPPLY? Again, I just want people to know how talented the different artisans are who participate. They all have such incredible skill and and I hope people recognize their passion and dedication. F+S is a great way for them to showcase their work, but an even better place for people to buy and support this talented group of craftspeople.
