Brandon Quattrone and Mat Sanders are the masterminds behind Consort, a home decorating concept that integrates an interior designing service with an online shop and a shoppable showroom. Based out of the West Coast, the co-founders of the brand have collectively amassed a cult-following thanks to their rather impressive portfolios. Having launched their brick and mortar in LA, the two recently expanded out East with a shop in Tribeca. We caught up with Quattrone and Sanders to learn about their latest venture and how they’re hoping to bring their signature California-cool aesthetic to NYC. Take a look!
What was the goal for opening up the space in Tribeca?
We launched our design careers in New York, so we’ve always had plans to include it in our Consort story. Tribeca already has an incredible creative vibe, but we saw an opening in the market for our fresh take on the Californian aesthetic.
Where did you draw your inspiration for the decor?
Mat has always worked in the digital editorial space, and has been able to gather insights and observations about the types of things that attract cool, creative, affluent types. In our shops, we aim to combine those key features with items that we love.
How would you describe the aesthetic of the store?
Our store is the distillation of our look: high-contrast, fashion-forward, unfussy, and chic, with some playful color and character sprinkled throughout. Gone are the days of the stuffy showrooms–people want to shop the way they live. We decorate our shops like they’re real homes so that people can walk in and picture themselves living with our pieces.
We love the layout of the store and how it resembles an actual home. Was it difficult maintaining a consistent vibe throughout while ensuring that you have a diverse enough offering?
We always keep our target consumer in mind. It’s easy to furnish and accessorize a space when you have a clear vision of who will live there and what their life will look life. From custom pieces to vintage finds to hand-crafted items, we focus on creating a collected yet cohesive feel.
Where do you see yourselves going next?
This year we will be rolling out a full custom furniture collection of upholstery and casegoods. We have our sights set on opening our next location in early 2017 in the Bay Area, with more stores to pop up in the not-too-distant future. We’ll also be expanding and refining our e-commerce presence to reflect all this exciting growth.

A 9-foot taxidermied hammerhead shark that Mat drunk bought in an online auction and forgot about until it arrived on our doorstep, about a month and a half later.
Best part of our job:
Not only being able to work with clients to make their homes more beautiful, but having a showroom space where we can let our imaginations run wild.
Our space is inspired by:
Our workspace is a design office and showroom, so it’s inspired by (and filled with) all the things we find and love in our travels to various markets and furniture shows around the world, and those we’ve discovered by falling down Instagram rabbit holes in search of new, emerging artists.
Color scheme we’re currently coveting:
Grass green and lavender.
