Bright, over-the-top colors and patterns are classic picks for the under-13—imagine a vibe somewhere between Barbie Dreamhouse and Fisher-Price—but a new Dubai restaurant designed specifically for kids proves that neutrals might just be the perfect choice for little ones.

White & The Bear, designed by Sneha Divias Atelier, features a decidedly calm palette of off-whites and oak, Dezeen reports. Child-size seats are subtly reminiscent of animals, and black-and-white plates embellished with the alphabet set the scene, with nary a Crayola hue in sight. The simplicity of the design is deliberate: By not overstimulating children with color, the design firm hopes that the restaurant will encourage them to think creatively. It basically requires them to fill in the blanks.

As much as we love a good primary shade, a more toned-down approach clearly has its merits. Plus, as your child gets older, it will be much easier to add in the inevitably vibrant accents they won’t stop asking for. Kids have such vivid imaginations that there are infinite possibilities for going forward.
