What do you get when you cross

Mama Medicine

with honeymoon and travel experts Mr & Mrs Smith? A healing bath ritual for any type of bride-to-be. We recently met up at the Riverhouse Suite at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge to learn how to DIY four different restorative baths. Here, you can find how to recreate each sensual soak to help you relieve stress, find focus, cure laziness, or calm your nerves.

One thing’s for certain: When it comes to planning a wedding, a pregnant bride equals an overwhelmed bride. That’s why it’s extra important to engage in self-care when you’re expected to walk down the aisle while you’re expecting.

According to Deborah Hanekamp aka Mama Medicine—a seeress with over 16 years in the healing arts as an initiated Amazonian Shaman, Reiki Master, and Yogini—“When we’re pregnant, our instincts are on overdrive.”

But, she notes, that this “increased awareness” can be very helpful when planning a wedding. “You get a clearer sense of your boundaries. Just be careful not to let the planning for the new baby combined with planning for the wedding overwhelm you — it’s important to take time to process and assimilate all the new changes.”

Below, a soothing bath ritual to take the edge off for all you mamas who are about-to-be-betrothed.

Ingredients:

  • Stick of palo santo
  • Dried lavender flowers
  • A few fresh basil leaves
  • Pitcher of Coconut milk
  • Amythest
  • Moonstone
  • One tree peony and loose peony petals

Ritual:

First, arrange your crystals around the tub, and cleanse your aura with the sacred smoke of palo santo. Draw a warm bath and pour in the coconut milk, flowers, and basil leaves. Step into the bath and dunk your head underwater.
Then, place loving hands on your belly. Next, take several deep breaths, exhaling through the mouth and releasing an “ahh” sound on each exhale. Soak for at least 20 minutes in the supportive energy you’ve created!
