When you’re short on square footage, there are few lengths you won’t go to save space. Whether you’ve hung pegboards to hold cookware or installed racks to keep pantry staples from crowding your cabinetry, the name of the game is making the most of the inches you do have.

So when we caught sight of Mainstays’s supercompact dining set from Walmart, we couldn’t help but pause. The magic is in its base: Four stools tuck neatly underneath once mealtime is over, reducing its footprint by half.

The whole set measures just under 3-by-3 feet, so it can fit in the most petite of rooms, especially narrow ones (the square shape nestles right into corners). Another major bonus is that the four stools double as storage. The cushions on top of each lift off to reveal ample space beneath for table linens or other overflow.

Luckily it has style chops, too. With a sleek, ’70s-inspired silhouette and a reclaimed wood finish, the piece strikes the perfect balance between retro and organic modern. The two colorways to choose from—one a warm brown and the other a crisp gray—meld seamlessly with any aesthetic, and the faux leather seats offer just the right amount of glam.

Considering all of the above, you might expect an exuberant price point. But the whole set rings in at—wait for it—just $219. Plus it’s versatile enough to be used around the home, whether in a craft room, formal dining area, or breakfast nook. All this to say: If you’re looking for something that can hide away but is party-ready when guests come over, you’ve met your match.
