The pride I feel when actually stowing away our outdoor lights or grilling gear when they’re not in use is always quickly squashed by how easily they get lost in the chaos of our backyard shed. This year, instead of jostling among the big stuff like our lawn mower and leaf blower, I went searching for storage so these more frequently used items could live closer to the house. A weatherproof bin that’s not a total eyesore nor a space hog seemed like a big ask, but I recently discovered this very thing on Amazon. I have TikTok to thank—Wazhma Hashimi posted about her deck storage the other day and I couldn’t believe how chic it looked.

From an aesthetic perspective, the Mirador outdoor deck box nails it: a delightfully minimalist metal exterior in either a charcoal or creamy latte finish; a handsome wood handle; and matching, lockable wheels.

But what about functionality? The smallest option, 136 gallons, can easily hold a couple pillows, gardening tools, blankets, and some toys—more than enough space for my needs. (There are also 175– and 281-gallon versions, the latter of which looks to fit an entire patio cushion set and a cooler with room to spare.) A soft-close lid ensures my toddler’s little fingers won’t get caught, and the steel side panels and aluminum frame are reportedly rustproof. Hashimi did us all a favor and sprayed hers with a hose to determine if the box is waterproof, too. In other words, I can leave it out rain or shine guilt-free. All that, plus a 15-year warranty, softens the $399 price tag.

I will note that Mirador recommends two people to put the deck box together, and a review on Amazon mentions it’s not the simplest task, so prepare yourself for some potential IKEA-level frustration. But it’s nothing that firepit s’mores or a hot tub hang—with easy two-minute cleanup afterward—can’t fix.
