When it comes to updating a piece of furniture, often paint is the best answer. It’s typically a quick and inexpensive way to breathe life into tired looking furniture.

Before: The headboard in our master bedroom was in desperate need of an update. With a minimal budget, I decided to turn to paint. The result was a DIY that I love!

I chose to go with a lively blue. It was a fun and slightly bold choice, but it was exactly what the room needed. Prior to choosing this color, I brought home several paint chips to see how they would look in the room.

The color palette was inspired by a beautiful watercolor of an iris that we have hanging in our room. Blues, purples, and touches of gold can be found throughout the room.

Keeping costs down was key with this update. I opted to buy fabric and sew the pillow covers myself. It may sound daunting, but sewing pillow covers is really a great project for beginner and experienced sewers. If you’re too nervous to tackle a zipper, you can opt to make an envelope closure.

The side tables were originally the same color as the headboard, a touch of white spray paint and gold for the hardware gave them a fabulous new look. His and hers art pieces and lucite lamps on either side finish off the space.
