Dated countertops aren’t just sad to look at, they happen to be one of the biggest deterrents for potential home buyers. According to Opendoor’s 2023 home decor report, 41 percent of people consider it a turn-off. (Psst: Tiled worktops are apparently one of the most “horrifying” options.) So what is the material winning over everyone? Quartz.

Next to fresh appliances and an island, kitchen and bathroom vanity countertops made out of the engineered stone are the most desirable element in a home—and we predict it’s only going to become more popular. Surface manufacturer Cambria just launched a new collection of alloy-infused quartz. The veining amid the milky white backdrop captures the look of brass and steel; the material is available in three different textures that range from completely smooth to raised and rigid.

If there’s anything we’ve learned about brass over the past 10 years it’s that it has real staying power in the kitchen. The metal has been touted to instantly warm up a cooking space, especially one with cool gray or navy cabinets, and high-end designers such as Kelly Wearstler and Jenna Lyons swear by it. In Lyons’s home, she used it for her sink, shelving, backsplash, and counters. Of course, an allover look isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, which is what makes Cambria’s metal-tinged worktops so intriguing—you can get the best of both materials in one fell slab.
