There are typically two schools of thought when it comes to outdoor holiday lights: Go all in on warm white or coat your exterior in color. While we’ve long been in the former camp, it turns out bold strands are actually winning the popularity contest. According to a new survey from home-buying company Offerpad that polled more than 2,000 Americans, the top holiday lawn decor choice is multicolored lights (33 percent of respondents prefer this option over their clear, incandescent counterparts). The research also fortunately uncovered that character inflatables are the least favorite lawn ornaments (phew!).

The problem with holiday lights is that everyone seems to own the exact same blue-orange-green-purple set, making it impossible for your home to stand out. So in the spirit of giving, we went on the hunt for a few unique kaleidoscopic products that are bound to make your house the brightest on the block.

To keep things from appearing scattered, take a streamlined approach with a predetermined palette. Terrain’s set is available in five different color stories, because who said tonal lavenders can’t feel Christmasy? If you’re looking to create a more custom look, consider these smart lights, which recently took the first runner-up spot in Home Depot’s Innovation awards. You can individually control the hue, brightness, and timing of each bulb through an easy-to-use app. For a more vibrant show, wide-angle lights emit an intense glow and create more depth thanks to the concave shape. You can also soften the look with a pastel-inspired palette. Forget caroling—your neighbors will be knocking on your door to ask where you bought your bulbs.
