Odd as it may seem, you end up learning a lot about your colleagues while working remotely, particularly when it comes to their style. Video conference meetings are a window inside everyone’s homes, so when you aren’t exactly in love with the big brick wall or beige headboard behind you, these virtual catch-ups can be a frightening experience. But who said your space had to be real? West Elm has launched a series of backgrounds for the web platform Zoom so everyone can dial in from their dream house.
The interiors look realistic because they’re all legitimate spaces that have been featured on the brand’s blog, Front + Main. The stylish setups range from an industrial city kitchen to a breezy, lofted living room to actress Zosia Mamet’s rustic cabin. All you have to do is download the photos you want from the website; save them to your desktop; then, on Zoom, go to the settings and upload the scene of your choice through the Virtual Background button. Psst: Your coworkers will never know that you don’t really own a healthy fiddle-leaf fig if you don’t move around too much. We’re snagging these spaces for our next onscreen debut:
The One With Impressive Architecture
If you really want to wow your boss, set the background to Lindsey Tobler’s Salt Lake City great room, which features white-painted, wood-beamed ceilings and a gorgeous fireplace surrounded by built-in shelves.
The One That’ll Make You a Plant Parent
In their eyes, at least. Convince everyone that you’ve got a green thumb with this setup that has a giant parlor palm tree in the corner. The real-life Brooklyn apartment also has a small spider plant and two large monsteras. You can’t totally see them, but if anyone asks, you can brag about them.
The One That’s Like a Mini Vacation
Craving some vitamin D? Take a virtual trip to the Hamptons by saving this pristine patio. Staying inside doesn’t have to mean missing out on the great outdoors.
