Husband and wife Josh and Dana Fernandez started their wedding photography business in 2012 after their own wedding. Five years and over a hundred weddings later, they are going stronger than ever. Her background in fine art coupled with her husband’s candid photojournalism style creates some seriously stunning pics.

“Weddings are beautiful,” says Dana. “We always get excited to see the details couples select to show off their style and personality but at the end of the day, the emotional and raw moments we get to capture make us love what we do. Plus, every single client is different — and we love each and every one.” Dana walks us through some of their greatest hits below.

“This photo was taken during a first look where the bride and groom privately shared their vows before the ceremony. One of the most beautiful and loving moments we have ever witnessed.”

“Every photo has several story lines. Right before this photo was taken, a bee flew out of the bride’s bouquet and stung her!  Despite the pain, she was determined capture her special day and pressed on with her photos.”

“One of the most fun parts of starting a wedding day is seeing all of the details and decor that the bride and groom chose to complement their personalities. This floral chandelier set-up was one of our all-time favorites because everything was so intricately designed and truly brought together all of the details from their wedding day.”

“This invitation suite was something that we had never seen before. We worked with the invitation designer to photograph lay-flat florals (seen in the invitation and RSVP). The shots were later incorporated into the designer’s final product.”

“The weather was not cooperative for this bride whatsoever. This was especially disheartening because it was her main wish on her wedding day to have an outdoor ceremony. She kept pushing back the ceremony start time, hoping that the rain would stop. Unfortunately, it did not. The ceremony happened during a full downpour, and we happily photographed the entire ceremony barefoot, holding umbrellas.”

“This bride’s wedding attire took our breath away. Everything she wore, from her clothes to her jewelry, was completely custom made.”

“We enjoy every role that we play during a wedding—photographer, art director, and we especially enjoy being stylists. We carefully assess each couple’s’ details and incorporate items from the venue or decor. In this example of a styled shot, the ribbon from a box containing one the bride’s details was used in addition to leftover florals from her bouquet.”

“We knew this location would be perfect for our bride’s request for a first look. The light, movement, and landscape all help to communicate the anticipation between a couple about to see each other for the first time on their wedding day.”

“The most important element that we rely on to help us capture the best images possible is our clients’ trust. The venue’s dressing quarters were beautiful, but proved to have darker lighting that what we had envisioned. The bride put 100 percent trust in us for location suggestions. We opted to have the bride dress in the reception area, before the guests arrived. The result was one of our very favorite getting ready shots.”

“Our job is to make the absolute most out of the weather, atmosphere, and light that we have to work with. We are thankful for our clients’ faith in us, especially when they cannot immediately see the reasoning behind our suggestions. The irony of this photo is that the location was not on some lakefront beach. It was actually on the perimeter of a construction site! We were only 10 feet away from a commercial waste bin, but our bride and her bridesmaids were good sports, and up for an adventurous photo.”

“After photographing over 100 weddings, this moment has a special place in our hearts. Tragically, the bride’s father passed away prior to the wedding. Initially, the bride chose to walk down the aisle by herself. The groom lovingly met his wife-to-be halfway down the aisle, and they completed the trip to the altar together. This act of love and unity was one of the sweetest ways we’ve witnessed two people start their adventure together.”
