New York’s Latest Private Club Doubles as a Wellness Retreat

Many private clubs center around gin martinis, plates of grilled rib eye, and sides of truffle fries. Not this one. The Well, which opened in New York City last week, is on a mission to improve the holistic health of Manhattanites, one acupuncture treatment at a time. 

For a (not so meager) $375 a month, members can enjoy vibrational energy healing, reflexology treatments, and biodynamic wines, all in the comfort of an ethereal hub with softly curved walls, plant installations, and a soundproof, dome-like meditation room. 

While it might feel like the peak of the health-conscious craze, the Well is actually part of a broader movement. If you’ve noticed that the offices of your dentist or gynecologist or even your pet’s veterinarian has gotten a 360-degree makeover lately, you’re not the only one. The club, designed by Rose Ink Workshop, joins a host of millennial-inclined services that are putting design at the forefront in the hopes of making doctor appointments feel like a little less of a chore.

Mint and blush arches lead to bathrooms covered in dainty floral wallpaper and textured zellige tile. In the reflexology room, an entire wall of medicinal plants and herbs, curated by resident plant whisperer Luz LeStrange, brings good vibes. Downstairs, dry and wet saunas are carved out of wavy white plaster, while pale pink walls and incense lead guests to the treatment spaces. Even the locker rooms have a luxury spa feel, lined with Apparatus lighting and Dyson hair dryers.

We may not all be so lucky to get daily pampering sessions in a softly lit wellness haven, but we can at least hope that our next gyno visit will be a little more stylish.
