While we’re homebound, a quick check-in with friends or family goes a long way. That’s why Psychology Today opts for the term physical distancing over social distancing. “Community building, togetherness, and emotional connections via electronic devices are imperative for our mental health,” writes therapist Joe Kort, Ph.D. The iPhone app Givingli makes this reach-out a creative pursuit, letting you customize cards designed by independent artists to tell someone you’re thinking of them. Here’s how it works:

  1. Download Givingli and scroll through its digital card bank. You can browse designs by occasion, including a “send from home” theme created specifically for quaran-times.
  2. Personalize the back of your pick with type, photos, stickers, and doodles.
  3. Text your finished card to a pal straight from the app. (Use code VIRTUALLOVE to send unlimited cards for free.)

“With so many of us unable to see each other in person for special occasions or leave the house to mail a paper card, we’ve seen growth of four to five times in just the last two weeks,” says Givingli founder Nicole Emrani Green. “Designs relevant to this moment provide a platform to acknowledge the range of emotions we’re all experiencing, together.”

Not to mention, by currently showcasing 28 artists’ work, Givingli helps them gain name recognition. And to further support its designer community during this uncertain period, the company recently launched Create Together, a donation program where 100-percent of proceeds go directly to the creators.
