A foolproof guide to Swift-inspired winged eyelid perfection. Even if you think you can do it, can you do it like Taylor? Read on.

STEP 1

PICK PROPER EYELINER

Liquid liner works best, especially in a pinch, but cream and gel versions are great for practice with an angled brush. Go for a fine point tipped liquid pen in either black or a deep brown  (we love Stila’s ‘Stay All Day’ waterproof pen) for easy—and effective—maneuvering.

STEP 2
PRIME TIME Use a liquid foundation, neutral eyeshadow, or ideally, a shadow primer (we love Urban Decay’s ‘Eye Shadow Primer Potion’) to prep your eyelid for superior lining that will last all day/night.

STEP 3

GET YOUR WINGS
Determine the best angle for your cat eye by using the outer corner of your bottom lid as a starting point for your wing. (For beginners, we recommend using a small piece of scotch tape angled from your outer lid toward the tail of each eyebrow to create a perfect line.) Draw the outer edge of your wing by starting from the outside corner of your lower lid toward the end of your eyebrow and making the base of your wing as little or long as you prefer.

STEP 4

RIGHT ANGLE
Now, starting in the middle of your eyelid, draw a straight line that connects the outer tip of your wing to your lid. This should create an empty triangle where your finished wings will be.

STEP 5

CONNECT THE DOTS
Complete the cat-eye by drawing the rest of the line from the middle of your eyelid to the inner corners of each eye and then filling in the wings with liner.

STEP 6

FLAWLESS FINISH
Use under eye concealer, mascara, and an eyeliner pencil across your upper wet line to ensure a spotless and glamorous look that even T. Swift herself would applaud.
