Taryn Toomey recently opened her first eponymous studio in New York City where she teaches her signature class, a blend of yoga, strength training, and cardio. A real cathartic experience, you’ll leave feeling grounded and calm. With gorgeous marble slabs and a soft pink-and-gray color palette, The Class by Taryn Toomey’s Tribeca studio features tourmaline-and-hematite-lined floors (which clear the energy and renew balance), healing clear-quartz light fixtures by Kelly Wearstler and metal lighting by Christopher Boots. Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts and Christy Turlington Burns are devotees of the workout.

We checked in with the Tribeca-based trainer and mother of two to see how she winds down on the weekends and what she does in order to reset for the week ahead.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Brush my teeth, scrape my tongue, rinse my face, pull the corners of my eyes/temples and say some unnecessary thing to myself about how tired I look and that I am going to sleep better tonight. Then lift my chin up take a few big breaths in and out, shake my arms, flutter my lips laugh at myself and get going with my day.

What are your favorite things to do for yourself on the weekends?

Workout. Yes, I said it. I TAKE a class though, so I guess I should say be a student.  I go to Laurie Cole’s SoulCycle class or Kula Yoga.

How do you deal when you’re away for the weekend?

I try to bring my rituals with me: legs up the wall, meditation each morning, and I bring powdered forms of my tonic ingredients: powdered ginger, powdered turmeric and ask for lemon and a pitcher of water from room service. I might also add a Moon Juice Dust packet.

What are the activities or errands on your “must-accomplish list” every weekend?

Quality time with kids, sleeping in (which means attempting to sleep past 6:30 AM —my internal alarm is real!). Some sort of self-care and body work: a massage, pedicure at Tenoverten in Tribeca, or I visit Higher Dose for an infrared sauna.

What do you do on Sundays to prepare for the week ahead?

Grocery shop at Whole Foods Tribeca, pack my kids’ lunches, plan classes, check my weekly calendar, dinner with the family at home and finish off by taking a Pursoma salt bath.
