If you believe in that platinum effect and that blondes have more fun, then yes, this is the piece for you. I am a (somewhat) natural blonde, and I have wisdom to impart about keeping your blonde at its blondest all summer long.

More specifically, I know how to keep the brass away. The tried and true best friend of every complexly colored blonde is purple pigment, whether it be in drops, a mask, or shampoo. Brassiness can happen to anyone, either from chlorine, hard water, or even too much sunshine, and purpley products are what can take you from brass to sass.

Word to the wise though: It’s important to not overdo it. Some of these products are pretty powerful, and are to be used every few weeks or just as needed, especially as the tones can really hold into the hair shaft for about three to five shampoos.

Christophe Robin Shade Variation Care Mask, $53

One of our very favorites, French color master, Christophe Robin, is actually the perfect person to talk about blondes, as he’s the long-time colorist for the iconic blonde French actress Catherine Deneuve. “For blondes, color-treated, or highlighted hair I always recommend my Shade Variation Mask Baby Blonde,” says Robin. “Unlike a purple shampoo, this mask has the time to grab onto the hair and deposit pigments to remove any brassy and yellow tones, and getting your blonde to be more luminous than ever. I don’t like glosses, I always feel like it’s putting more makeup on a bad skin, the shade variation mask not only corrects the color but also revives it all the while deeply nourishing the hair.”

This mask is one of the most powerful and effective aids for blonde hair. It can be used between coloring to remove yellow tones and give vibrancy to highlights. Leave on for about five to 30 minutes, depending on the desired intensity. The tone will wash out after three to five shampoos.

Amika Bust Your Brass Foam, $25

We’ve talked about mask and drops, so let’s keep the diverse range going with this brand spankin’ new leave-in foam. The foam hydrates, while also highlighting blonde tones instantly with optical brighteners. It’s pretty simple: just add the foam to damp hair, massage in, and dry it. You should notice a major boost in brass-reduction immediately.

Sachajuan Silver Shampoo, $31

First off, name one packaging more chic than Sachajuan—we’ll wait. While we’re waiting, we’ll use this violet-pigmented shampoo that decreases brassiness, and warms up blonde tones. It also happens to hydrate and add shine, so not only will blondes be brighter, but all around more radiant. Work the shampoo into your roots, and then allow it to sit for a few minutes to saturate your color, then wash out, and you’re good to go.
