In recent years, there has been an exponential increase in the sheer number of style-focused home speakers. With time, each have become more refined and versatile, designed to sit inconspicuously within a space. Sonos is one such brand, known for its signature affinity for designing sleek speakers that can fit seamlessly into any decorative scheme. Today, the home sound system company unveiled their new voice-enabled smart speaker: the Sonos One, introducing it as a music-first accessory.

The unit is natively controlled by Amazon’s Alexa (the Echo or Echo Dot are not needed), with the ability to also integrate Google Assistant coming in 2018.. Upon command, users will be able to stream content via their Sonos speakers, regardless of where it is set up. The voice-controlled smart speaker is compatible with multiple voices and can play everything from music and podcasts to audiobooks and content from over 80 streaming services.
Available in either black or white, the sleek speaker is a case study of the general evolution of home speaker systems and the innovative direction in which they’re heading—consider this one a reinvention of Sonos’ classic Play 1 speaker, with greater capabilities.
Sonos users will also have the ability to control their speaker systems via streaming services such as Pandora and Tidal later this year, while an Apple-compatible Airplay 2 service will be available in 2018.

Sonos One is available to pre-order today and will be available globally on October 24, for $199.
