If we could only pick one word to sum up all of the kitchen renovations we saw in the last two years, we’d go with sage. The gray-meets-eucalyptus hue—a favorite among designers like Athena Calderone and London-based firm Pluck—is quickly becoming more popular than white. But while we were all about applying the shade to cabinetry, luxury appliance brand True Residential showed us a new place to embrace the color of the moment: the refrigerator.

At last week’s annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, we discovered the company’s latest color, Sage, which is applicable to any of its full-size or indoor-outdoor under-counter refrigeration and freezer units. The soon-to-come 36-inch refrigerator with bottom freezer was on display at the event (it’s launching this summer), filled with fresh veggies to bring the color story full circle, but the hue is already available in the company’s existing column and side-by-side options.

Sage is just one more addition to True Residential’s already colorful line. Last year, it came out with Juniper, a dark blue-gray, but we love the idea of pairing its matte black option with soapstone counters and charcoal-tinged cabinets. “We’ve consistently been right on trend when developing new colors—not out of a need to introduce colors that are currently in favor, but because we have a tendency to choose hues we feel can have the most lasting impact for both homeowners and designers,” says Chelsea McClaran, True Residential’s brand manager. Stainless steel who?
