Let there be light! Product designer Ana Meier has teamed up with her father, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier, and his longtime lighting collaborator designer Hervé Descottes to launch Richard Meier Light. Debuting March 14th at the Ralph Pucci showroom in New York, with Los Angeles and Miami to follow, the 12-piece collection of Corian-glass-and-aluminum-made light fixtures (with adjustable LED) lights are simple and intuitive. Developed using a range of materials from handblown glass (manufactured by WonderGlass) to Corian, the line features sconces, pendants and floor lamps.

“Corian and glass bring a soft, delicate richness that adds texture to white,” Ana explains. “Corian is more often thought of as an architectural material than as an art or light base but its buttery feel gives the pieces a unique edge while the glass adds a crisp glow.” Geometry was as important as light during this process. “I was passionate about the Circle and Square designs, and fresh takes on these beautiful geometries. Together, our goal was to create timeless, artistically-driven lighting using our distinctive backgrounds and skill sets.”

The trio was brought together by a motivation to bring Richard’s iconic architectural statements to a smaller, more intimate scale. “I’ve learned to see the world through my father’s eyes,” says Ana “and I’ve always appreciated the architect’s ability to create something from nothing.”

We asked Meier how she would use her pieces in the following four decorated rooms in need of some functional lighting.

Leverage a High Ceiling

“I love pairing hanging pendant lights in rooms with high ceilings,” says Meier. “Adding a modern light to this space would transform it while adding brightness.”

Create a Space That Glows at Night

“The

space above the

headboard would be the perfect spot for a focal lighting feature that adds ambience,” says Meier.

Strive for Simple Harmony

“Adding a piece like the Circle sconce here would complement the duality of the wall color while offering an artful flare to this homey room design,” suggests Meier.

The Romance of Geometry

“To me, this is the beauty of geometry,” says Meier. “I could see our Square light adding a moody softness to this romantic space.”
