California-born model Rocky Barnes and her husband, Matt Cooper, bought the worst house on their block on purpose. The O.G. influencer, who is best known in the Instagramsphere for traveling the globe and repping fashion brands like Revolve, gave a sneak peek of their new mid-century fixer-upper on her Youtube channel earlier this week. “We picked it for the bones,” shares Cooper, as the camera follows the couple into the living room, Cribs-style. We saw the potential right away: lofted beamed ceilings, a breezy floor plan, sliding glass doors leading out to the backyard. But we also understand why their stuff is still packed in boxes—the place has barely changed since it was built in 1958.

As Barnes and Cooper walked through the various rooms, they noted all the major upgrades they want to make to the house. Knowing that Barnes is drawn to eclectic accents with tons of texture (she defined her style as “mid-century Moroccan” to Gray Malin), we came up with a few ideas for the top three projects on their punch list.

A Plunge Pool

We never knew a swimming pool could be too big until we saw Barnes and Cooper’s 50-foot-long lagoon. “Don’t get us wrong, Matt and I love a pool, but this one is a bit ridiculous,” Barnes says. Downsizing the feature will be the most costly part of the backyard renovation, she admits, but it will give them more room for entertaining. We can see the pair going with something long and skinny (the one at Helene Henderson’s Malibu farmhouse maximizes lounging zones) or a tiny above-ground basin

A Dreamy Closet

Currently, Barnes’s belongings are scattered in every room—there are handbags in the guest room and blouses in the office. When the model suggested she wants to turn one of the guest spaces into her master closet, we instantly thought of Clare V.’s wallpaper-clad walk-in. All she’d have to add is wall-mounted baskets, a rattan chair, and a shag rug to give the spot her own spin.

A Zen Bathroom

The couple may have gotten rid of the mold in their master bathroom already, but the dingy, dark space still has a long way to go. Colorful zellige tiles in the shower and a big, light-reflecting mirror will turn the tiny corner into an oasis.
