For over 50 years, Ralph Lauren has built an empire on the American dream—from the East Coast prep to the rugged Western cowboy. This year, the iconic brand expands its horizon internationally with a new collaboration with a British heritage brand.

Shortly after being named Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Ralph Lauren unveiled a tabletop collection designed in collaboration with British pottery company Burleigh. At the heart of the collection, garden vines and midnight skies inspire the navy- and black-on-white patterns, inspired by vintage batik cloths and bandanas.

The relationship between the two iconic brands doesn’t start here. Burleigh has been supplying bespoke items for Ralph Lauren’s Paris and London stores and restaurants for years. “When creating completely new tissue decorated designs became a possibility, we alerted Ralph Lauren, and this set the ball rolling,” Burleigh’s commercial director, Jim Norman, told us. “It was a natural fit to collaborate with an iconic brand that also has a great history and similar values.”

The main challenge (and ultimate success) of the collaboration was to capture the American spirit and timeless style of Ralph Lauren and celebrate it using Burleigh’s traditional craftsmanship and unique decorating method—first pioneered over 250 years ago. “Tissue Transfer Decoration creates a very distinctive style that is immediately recognizable,” explains Norman.

The beautifully handcrafted pieces range in style from timeless floral pitchers to dainty starry-night dinner plates and vine-covered teapots. In the coming months, new colors and patterns will be introduced to create a timeless collection in line with the changing seasons. “We see this collaboration as a lasting partnership,” adds Norman, “creating a collection together that will continue to grow.”
