Rachel Zoe’s First-Ever Wallpaper Collection Is a Departure From Her Minimalist Design Style

Rachel Zoe’s California home has always featured a white, minimalist aesthetic with the exception of a few bold accessories peppered throughout. But a visit to a friend’s place changed all that. “Every single room had the loudest wallpaper and colored furniture, and I fell so in love with it,” Zoe recalls. Her newfound appreciation for spaces filled with vibrant shades and patterns led the fashion designer to launch a peel-and-stick wallpaper collection with WallPops (out today).

The Rachel Zoe x WallPops line is equal parts sophisticated and chill, or as Zoe describes it, “a little bit ’70s and a little bit mod.” Noncommittal types who like to switch up their style often need not fear: The $60-per-roll wall coverings are reusable and removable. You can also easily reposition the paper by peeling it off the wall and applying it to another spot, or, when you move, simply peel the paper from the top down and stick it onto the original backing sheet until you’re ready to hang it in your new home. 

Among the six fresh options are Greer Chevron (a subtle, cascading print with big Art Deco–inspired energy), Palmero Leaf (an iteration of the quintessential palm leaf motif), and, naturally, an edgy animal print dubbed Marlowe—a personal favorite of Zoe’s. “As someone who doesn’t necessarily always do bold color in my home, I love a bordeaux, like a deep, rich red, or a beautiful green. It can be so timeless and interesting and gives a vintage Hollywood feel to a room,” she shares. While Zoe says there’s no room she wouldn’t wallpaper, her advice for first-timers is to take baby steps by starting with a smaller space or nook. “I love it in a powder room, because it’s transformative when you walk in to put makeup on,” she notes. “Or maybe start with a backsplash. Sometimes doing one wall is interesting.” 

Regardless of where you choose to start your makeover, Zoe loves the flexibility a peel-and-stick product offers. “When I was in my post-college, early years living in New York City and trying to make a very small space beautiful, I painted my walls the wrong color many times,” she recalls. “Sometimes it looks totally different in the container than it does on the wall. If you have wallpaper, you know what you’re getting.”
