It’s around this same time every year when the temperatures stay at a solid 30 degrees that we desperately begin to regret not booking a warm-weather winter getaway. Luckily, we’re not averse to a last-minute trip—especially, when we can score a little extra cash in the process.

According to Travel and Leisure, the city of San Luis Obispo—a vibrant town on the coast of central California—is paying its first 500 winter tourists $100 to visit. Yes, really. In case you needed another excuse to take a well-deserved winter vacay, maybe a generous discount will convince you to escape to the West Coast for a long weekend.

In order to be eligible for the $100 reward, visitors will have to book a two-night stay at a hotel in San Luis Obispo through the city’s website. Once you have your promotion confirmation number (which you can receive by emailing your confirmation to info@sanluisobispovacations.com), all you have to do is show proof of your booking and your hotel room key at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center after you check into your hotel.

You’ll have to act fast if you want to get your money’s worth. The offer is only being offered to travelers who are visiting the area until March 31. That said, San Luis Obispo’s charming downtown scene is definitely worth the rush. With no shortage of coffeehouses, beaches, and 18th-century Spanish architecture (Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is a must-see), you can pack your brief stay with plenty of travel envy.
