When Oh Joy! Founder Joy Cho and her team decided to renovate their new office, they sought out e-boutique, Clé Tile, for all their tiling needs. The graphic designer-turned-lifestyle blogger, who’s known for her playful and colorful design perspective, loved her remodel so much that she decided to share her inspiring creations with the rest of us—by partnering with the artisanal tile house.

We love a good tiling job, but we also know that narrowing down the selects (or even designing your own) is not an easy undertaking. “When Angie (our designer) and I began the process, we really had to work on simplifying our typical (very colorful and very pattern-heavy) methods,” Cho wrote on the company’s blog.

Following her own advice, the Oh Joy for Clé Tile collection features a range of tiles that offer classic moments through whimsical touches of color and versatile patterns. The collection showcases five cement tiles that not only reflect the brand’s cheerful aesthetic by design, but also by name: Pinwheel, Confetti, Petal, Bubble, and Streamers.

While all five play with symmetry, balance, and soothing palettes, they each bring their own unique personality to the table. Pinwheel, for instance, adds a sense of order to the floor with its precise, colored corners, and attention to geometry.

Petal, on the other hand, sets the stage for a calming and less disciplined space—a perfect choice for amateur chefs who like to go wild in the kitchen. While the Oh Joy! team went for a tossed, laid-back look in their cookhouse, the tiles could also be patterned to create a more uniform backdrop.

All of the tiles in the collection, in fact, leave room for variance, so you can craft a space that’s truly your own. And, because they’re cement, they boast a distinctive matte finish which can instantly elevate the look and feel of a room. Not to mention, cement tiles are 100% recyclable and can be used virtually anywhere, from the kitchen backsplash to the mudroom.

“Tile isn’t cheap and it lasts for a long time, so it needs to feel like it can go with your space for a long time to come,” Cho reminds us. If you don’t want to skimp on style (but are nervous about longevity), one of these timeless options may be the perfect pick for you.
