When Allison and Brady Beauchamp realized a spacious corner lot in their dream neighborhood of Newport Beach was up for sale, they jumped at the opportunity to settle down and create their ultimate dream home—from scratch.

After completing a major demo that involved tearing down the two dilapidated houses that pre-existed on the lot, the couple spent a year making their design dreams into reality. The result? A stunning 4,000-square-foot modern farmhouse with four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a beautifully bright, neutral palette to bring it all together.

“We really wanted to build a modern farmhouse that was classic with a fresh take on coastal living,” says the couple. “Our design team was a big help when it came to getting the look we wanted. We accented the exterior with board and batten siding and an iconic standing seam metal roof. We brought the farmhouse feel into the home by adding barn doors throughout the interiors and selecting beautiful grey oak floors.”

Architecture firm Mark Gross & Associates designed the home, while Pinnacle Residential was responsible for the build. Inside, the couple worked with interior designer, Mindy Gayer to pull together a cohesive layout and design that consisted of a monochromatic color scheme with pops of texture, seamlessly blending modern and traditional. The feel of the home remains cozy and organic, thanks to the fresh blend of grays, whites, and subtle color that will remain stylish and timeless as the family expands.

“We’ve always been drawn to neutrals because they’re both inviting and classic,” says the couple. “By using a neutral palette with linens, stripes and subtle patterns, we were able to make the home feel cozy, relaxing and inviting. Nothing too stuffy or formal.”

No two light fixtures are the same in the Bauchamps’ home. Abstract, graphic pieces in a mix of finishes and materials from seeded glass, aged iron, nickel, linen and bamboo pull together an organic look that matches the elegant farmhouse look.

A custom fixture that sits atop the open staircase is a favorite of the homeowners. The bold black finish contrasts nicely with the bright white walls and banister with wire suspension detail. The couple agree that the custom piece was well-worth the month long wait.

The family can enjoy meals in a light-filled kitchen with quartz countertops and a slate gray backsplash. Wood stools sit at the island that doubles as a breakfast bar.

The couple explains that they began by choosing the materials for the tile and hard surfaces early on in their new build.  “We loved the idea of using neutrals materials that seamlessly blended modern and traditional,” they said.

The chosen finishes combine a look that is clean yet cozy. Here, we’re loving the look of the transparent light fixtures with antique Edison bulbs that hang above the island for an unobstructed view of the tall white cabinets.

Wallpaper and linen window treatments are details that are used throughout all the rooms in the home as clever uses of subtle texture. It’s these touches that make each space feel comfortable and homey. The gray chevron wallpaper in the master bedroom draws the eye upward and softens the design to make it truly relaxing and inviting.

More wallpaper graces the walls of the neutral nursery that proves that kids rooms can be chic, too.

On the design process Mindy Gayer said, “We loved layering in these textures throughout. We typically start by anchoring

each room with lighting selections, and then move on to wall coverings, fabrics, window coverings, cabinetry hardware, rugs and artwork.”

A rustic light piece and mirror look trendy yet traditional in one of the home’s six bathrooms. The graphic wallpaper in this powder room fits in to the monochromatic color palette, while still adding lots of visual interest to the small space.

Next up for the family? Besides enjoying their expansive outdoor living space, they plan on baby-proofing their home. “As our family continues to grow, we want to make sure we have a home that is both beautiful and functional for our little ones.”
