It’s so romantic.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are officially tossing in their top hats as city dwellers. According to royal reporter Emily Andrews, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be leaving Nottingham Cottage in London for Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year. While the impending arrival of their first child was likely behind their move to the countryside, their new digs carry special significance for the royal duo: It’s where their real love story began.
With all the recent buzz surrounding Markle’s growing bump, it’s easy to forget how Harry and Meghan left the world swooning when they released their official engagement photos just last December. Remember those dreamy shots of the pair strolling alongside a quiet marsh and looking tenderly into one another’s eyes? Between the refreshing show of royal PDA and Markle’s stunning three-stone diamond ring, it’s no surprise we overlooked the couple’s venue of choice: Frogmore Cottage.
“It’s where they had their private evening wedding party and where their gorgeous engagement pictures were shot,” Andrews wrote on Twitter. Frogmore—an estate which, according to Harper’s Bazaar, gets its name from the obscene amount of frogs that live on the grounds—is also the same property where Prince Charles hosted the royal wedding reception. George Clooney, Elton John, Priyanka Chopra, and Serena Williams were just a few A-listers who attended the exclusive after-party.
“It needs major building work to turn it back into a luxury family home, boasting 10 bedrooms and a new nursery, plus space for a gym and yoga studio,” adds Andrews. The two-story, stucco-faced home is currently divided into five separate living spaces, as it has previously been used to house the royal staff.
As much as the duo’s new full-time home is set to be primed for raising a family, the home is more than a slice of seclusion—it’s a chance to reminisce. And isn’t that the magic of all backyard weddings? While celebrating your wedding at home is surely convenient, it’s also an understated way to relive your special day. In this case, the Duke and Duchess don’t just get to bask in the bliss of their engagement every day, but they get to reminisce about their star-studded after-party too.
Seeing that the royal duo is about to engage in some serious nesting, we rounded up a few key essentials that the parents to be will need for their first real home.
