Calling all art lovers: The next time you casually pop into Madewell for a pair of flared jeans might be the moment you find the missing piece to your gallery wall puzzle. No longer just a source for wardrobe basics, the brand’s latest venture, Madewell in Residence, puts a spotlight on artists with a limited-edition collection of summer-ready prints that grace the surfaces of T-shirts, framed artwork, and more. We can feel the sunshine from here.

To kick off the new collection, Madewell has teamed up with three artists, each selected by the company’s head of design, Joyce Lee. Plant Planet artist Claire Nereim’s mouthwatering screen prints of tropical fruit are made using recycled paper and nontoxic inks. Angela Mckay of Brooklyn-based Ohkii Studio drew inspiration from the shores of Hawaii for her surf-influenced illustrations, which range from detailed landscape prints to fanciful beach towels. London-based artist Kit Agar rounds out the trio with terrazzo-inspired motifs and abstract portraits of women.

As we quietly swooned over floral-filled bandanas and adorable fruit beach towels, we couldn’t help but spot a likeness to the greatest printmaker of all: Henri Matisse. The French artist’s penchant for fluid forms and colorful botanicals is more relevant now than ever, and Madewell isn’t the only brand taking note. Murals wallpaper recently celebrated Matisse’s 150th birthday with a graphic collection of temporary wall treatments that pays homage to his use of cutout shapes.

For everyone who can’t afford an original Matisse, Madewell’s Residence line is the next best thing—but you’ll want to act fast. The limited-edition collection is available to shop online and in select stores, with products ranging from $18.50 to $48 and framed prints from Framebridge ranging from $85 to $135.
