In addition to predicting aesthetically pleasing (and easy to incorporate into the home) color palettes, the SS18 runways have also been the source of an entirely different breed of trend… and we’re not quite sure how we feel about it. Clashing prints (nowhere does this better than Gucci), a resurgence of logomania (hi, Fendi), fluorescent shades like fuschia pink emerging as stars of the show (à la Marc Jacobs), and an overall tilt towards the most cliché of ‘80s tropes make the forecast for the upcoming season look decidedly kitschy. Given the prevalence of animal prints on the AW18 catwalks as well—per Zadig & Voltaire, Tom Ford, Diane von Furstenberg, and even Victoria Beckham—it looks like kitsch has some staying power.

And while some may run for the hills at the thought of cheetah-print or lamé anything, when done right this trend doesn’t have to be overpowering. In fact, it can be quite fun. For those who want their homes to feel playful and don’t mind a little kitsch, these are the pieces to shop now and bring this latest fashion trend home.

Velvet Throw Pillow, Zara Home, $35.90

Don’t let the vibrant fuchsia scare you: There are tons of ways to decorate with these velvet accent pillows. Keep it as minimal as possible by adding a pop of color to a crisp white living room backdrop, or try tonal blocking with like shades of pink and cranberry for more of a statement.

Leopard Removable Wallpaper, Chasing Paper, $55

Admittedly, wallpapering an entire room in a bold leopard print is not for the faint of heart. But the fact that this is removable (and on serious sale) make it a totally justifiable decor risk. If you aren’t convinced, try it out as an accent wall, or even incorporate the wallpaper throughout your home in more creative ways.

Fringe Table Lamp, Coming Soon, $725

We’re getting serious retro vibes from this lamp, probably courtesy of the fringe—it’s even ombre. An homage to the 1970s, it’ll jazz up even the most boring of spaces.

Peekaboo Acrylic Coffee Table, CB2, $279

One ’80s trend in particular is actually quite 2018-approved. The decade’s fascination with clear furnishings (long live the glass dining room table) is back with a vengeance in the form of lucite. Try something sleek like this

for something less breakable than the retro fave.

Hearthside Pitcher, Anthropologie, $78

Not sure if lamé can possibly be translated into decor? Thankfully, it can’t (or at least, it shouldn’t; some things deserve to remain buried). But this gold pitcher is so smooth and metallic, think of it as the the stylish way to bring this hard-to-style trend to your home. Whether used as a serving tool or as a vase, it’s the perfect tabletop companion.

Box Scott, Louis Vuitton, $925

This little plexiglass box was met with much fanfare across social media when it was rolled out earlier this year, and we can see why. It’s probably the most demure way possible to dip your toe into the logomania trend, thanks to a neutral design and a vintage style reminiscent of old trunks. Keep your jewelry or decorative accessories tucked away here, or proudly display it empty to stand alone as a chic accent piece.

Painted Metal Bar Stool, Houzz, $188

Early morning wake up calls suck; your breakfast bar stools don’t have to. Each electric pink metal stool brings a vibrancy sure to liven up your apartment. You can even use these fuchsia numbers outside once the weather gets nicer for extra patio seating.

Push Pillow Cover, DittoHouse, $80

The right way to mix contrasting prints and loud colors and not have your living room looking like it was designed by your seven-year-old nephew. No disrespect to your seven-year-old nephew.
