We thought 3,000 square feet was justifiably spacious, but then we saw Kim Kardashian West’s Hidden Hills, California, home. In her recent 73 Questions video with Vogue, the beauty mogul and reality TV veteran offered a peek inside her sprawling family estate, which she shares with her husband, Kanye, and their three (soon to be four) children. As far as square footage goes, “more is more” appears to have been the motto for the house, which is really just a maze of never-ending rooms. Strangely enough, however, her personal design style is far from over-the-top.

When asked to describe her home, Kardashian West fittingly refers to the palatial abode as a “minimal monastery,” noting that the design was largely the work of both Kanye and Flemish art dealer and designer to the stars Axel Vervoordt. Aside from a few key pieces of furniture—including an unbleached Steinway piano and a Jean Royère Ours Polaire sofa—the house is devoid of stuffKardashian’s penchant for clean, stark, and neutral spaces makes a lot more sense once she reveals that the thing that “drives her the most crazy” is an unorganized closet.

As surprised as we were to learn that the former E! star is a minimalist at heart, we’re glad we did. Here are three “less is more” ideas we’re stealing from the Kardashian–West home.

Charcoal Dishware

Tucked away in a corner of the kitchen, you’ll find a pristine display of matte black dishes and serveware. A series of floating shelves make the cohesive arrangement all the more pleasing to look at. You never have to worry about your tablescape clashing when you stick to a streamlined palette.

A Distressed Dining Table

A large farmhouse-style dining table anchors the breakfast nook in Kardashian West’s kitchen. With enough room for the entire Kardashian clan—and then some—the washed wood statement piece makes a case for dining in and catching up with loved ones.

Shapely Vases

We’re guessing every vase, art object, and sculpture that made the cut for the Kardashian West retreat was painstakingly selected with the utmost care. Mixed in among large impressive crystals on the kitchen island, you’ll find vessels that play double duty as decorative objects. We couldn’t think of a better centerpiece for an ultra-clean space.
