Scandinavian design is undeniably chic, but there’s something extra-appealing when it falls into the realm of kids’ furniture, toys, and decor. Not just there for show or a soon-to-be-tossed upgrade, it supports well-being and brings a healthy dose of happiness into the home. The streamlined aesthetic feels neither too kiddish nor too austere, and the subdued color palettes are a balm for parents who get hives at the mere thought of loud plastic playthings piling up in the corner. In other words, little ones can fully explore their own sense of style when you’re working within the Scandi-cool world of interiors.

If you don’t know where to begin scouring the Internet for U.S. retailers, you’re in luck: We did the sleuthing for you. Here are four companies (with a bonus Dutch brand we love!) to help you get organized, add calming color, and transport straight to Scandinavia one mini architect-inspired desk at a time.

For the Fun-Loving Minimalist

You’ve probably seen Ferm Living’s Braided Pear Basket and Round Dorm (a circular storage shelf for displaying blocks and figurines) floating around your IG feed, but that’s just the beginning when it comes to this Danish brand’s covetable kid-friendly designs. From nature-inspired textiles and animalia-themed figurines to cheerful pom-pom pillows and mid-century–style furnishings, all of the pieces prove that you can create streamlined spaces for youngsters without sacrificing fun. Shop the company’s U.S. site or various others, including Danish Design Store, Fawn & Forest, Batten Home, and House & Hold.

For the Relaxed Colorist

We aren’t opposed to a primary-forward color scheme, but who can resist a good pistachio, rose, or ochre—soothing tones that are so easy on the eyes you just might focus less on how messy that room is getting. Copenhagen-based Liewood has parents covered from playtime to mealtime to bedtime thanks to its subdued line of toys, tableware, storage, bedding, and more in earth-friendly materials like natural rubber and organic cotton. Find it at Scandiborn USA and Smallable.

For the Creative World Builder

The universe of OYOY Mini is a fun one, full of curious friends (think: sleepy penguins and polka-dotted blowfish) that make imaginative play a guarantee and retro rattan furnishings that could have been plucked right from a Scandinavian cottage in the forest. The under-the-radar Danish brand has an equally curated approach to home accessories, including its Tiny Inka tableware series and classic-in-the-making Arca Chair.

For the Playful Pragmatist

Founded in Rotterdam, Netherlands, by husband-and-wife architects Arek and Agata Seredyn after the birth of their two sons, Rafa Kids is your go-to for durable furniture your children won’t outgrow next year. The brand’s curved shelves and stylish beds pay homage to modern forms, while also being thoughtfully functional—we’d consider the K-Desk for our own grown-up interiors. Thankfully the company ships worldwide (some items ship free), and you can find select pieces at Design Life Kids and Moon Picnic.

For the Cozy DIYer

Copenhagen’s Fabelab is grounded in storytelling, making up for a lack of furnishings with a bevy of wonder-inducing toys and accessories. The characters go beyond the usual menagerie (they’ve got a mole, a beetle, and a snail in the collection), and the cloth-based DIY projects and whimsical paper activity booklets are a step up from its craft-store counterparts. Fabelab now ships to the U.S. and you can find the brand at Bitte and Norman & Jules, or check its locator to learn what’s closest.
