When Canadian TV personality and cohost of the podcast LadyGang, Keltie Knight, and her husband moved into their new home in Studio City, Los Angeles, the living room quickly revealed itself as “the problem room.” “We couldn’t find the right layout because of the fireplace: It was off-center,” explains Knight.

With renovations already under way in other parts of the house, the couple did not want to mess with the bones of the living area. Instead they partnered with online interior design platform Havenly to uncover the room’s hidden potential.

“Keltie knew that she wanted to have a Frame TV above the fireplace, so that was the starting point for this project,” says Shelby Girard, Havenly’s vice president of design. But the view from the three arched windows, overlooking the valley, was an equally big draw. “You should not mess with such an incredible view, so I decided to forgo curtains,” notes Knight.

Connecting the windows on one side of the room and the fireplace on the other with an oatmeal-colored sectional sofa felt like the right move. “Mixing earthy tones like terracotta, light brown, and beige was also a way to add depth to the airy space,” says Girard. To ensure neither focal point was an afterthought, she strategically placed the iconic Flag Halyard lounger and velvet swivel chair on opposite ends to create two possible seating configurations.

The balancing act didn’t stop there. The wall of baskets that Knight sourced at a local market in Rwanda act as a warm-tone bridge between the brightness of the view and the cozier fireplace corner. Overhead, sanded-down beams (inspired by modern farmhouses in California) counteract the looming height of the ceiling. “This is the only room in the house that’s completely done, and we can’t wait to invite friends over to enjoy the view,” says Knight.
