Kaia Gerber’s New-Age Floral Bouquet Is an Ode to the Flower of 2019
Here’s what to pair it with.

Kaia Gerber just added a new talent to her résumé. On Sunday, the model attended a flower-arranging workshop hosted by Emily Ratajkowski, with blooms and guidance provided by Brittany Asch, the founder of beloved New York City–based floral studio Brrch. Gerber posted a photo of her ethereal bouquet on Instagram, and we couldn’t help but notice it features this year’s It flower: anthurium.
Our favorite florists have been experimenting with this bloom for some time now; it’s otherworldly shape and waxy surface lend itself to creativity. (Kate Esslemont, cofounder of Sir Botanical, is a big fan of coating the blossoms with metallic spray paint, while Busy Philipps’s go-to L.A. floral designer, Under New MGMT, bedazzles them with stick-on jewels.) Gerber chose to adorn her arrangement with a bent metal figure from Ratajkowski’s fashion label, Inamorata.
These glossy, heart-shaped blooms can certainly stand on their own, but as Gerber’s bouquet shows, they look even better in the company of other sculptural flowers. These three additions are foolproof:
Take a cue from Gerber and fill the extra space in the vase with this voluptuous pick. Orchids, like anthuriums, come in a ton of different hues, but we love how she chose one in the same general color family. Rust-red and blush are the new green.
For a display straight out of the tropics, place a large sun or fan palm behind your anthurium. Not only will it add a graphic touch, it will keep the whole thing sturdy.
Take your bouquet in a different direction (literally) by adding a stem or two of this drooping floral, which features dense clusters of petals meant to graze the table. We have a hunch it, too, will stick around in 2020.
