Justina Blakeney’s quarantine crew includes her daughter, her husband, and 52 plants. “I love the ones that love me back,” she told us during a recent Instagram Live. There’s a rubber tree, a philodendron, a couple climbing pothos, and even a freshly installed garden; suffice it to say, Blakeney’s well-documented love for greenery is still going strong in self-isolation. She also shared a peek at the other areas she’s leaning into to help her unwind—no surprise, they’re equally dreamy.

The Morning Retreat

The outdoor shower is easily one of our favorite features in Blakeney’s backyard; it turns out that the designer shares our feeling. “I literally shower out here every single day,” she says. “It’s nice to look at the plants and be in the open air and sunshine—it’s very cleansing.” She built out the little nook using leftover tile from an old kitchen project and transforming brick molds into wall-mounted shampoo shelves.

The Lunchtime Breakroom

“One of the best things that we created is this triple-pane window that opens up all the way,” says Blakeney. It’s giving us major hotel pool vibes: She can serve up meals from the kitchenette, while her family sits at the bar to enjoy a little alfresco break.

The Makeshift Concert Hall

When Blakeney bought the 1926-era house five years ago, she wasn’t quite sure what to do with the tiny garage—so she turned it into a mini house, complete with a sitting room, a kitchen, and… a music studio. Her daughter has a drum set, she has a guitar, and her husband plays a bunch of instruments. “This is where we jam,” she explains. How’s that for quality family bonding?
