As with her personal style, Iris Apfel’s previous forays into the world of design have been nothing short of striking. Her inaugural furniture line was all about bold graphics and the whimsical decor collection that followed featured a similarly bold aesthetic. Which is why her newest collaboration is a bit more surprising: The style icon is launching a line of glassware with Nude Glass, a retailer whose motto is “Simple Is Beautiful.”

The juxtaposition between two very different style aesthetics is not lost on Apfel. “As you can see, I’m hardly a minimalist,” she said in a statement. “I love to layer accessories and dress in color, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think simple. Nude is my simplicity, simplicity is a state of mind, and I think simple is beautiful.”

Premiering at Maison & Object in January 2019 and officially launching online in February, the “Inspired by Iris” collection is a yearlong partnership; new products will be added intermittently. As for the line itself, it’s proof that minimalism and maximalism can work when properly combined.

Apfel lent her unique flair to reimagining Nude classics. For the first wave of products, she took Tomas Kral’s “Beak” collection and added hints of vibrant, punchy color to the normally simple design. Dress it up or dress it down depending on your personal style preference; it’ll look just as great against an all-white, pared-back tablescape as it will among a range of colors and textures.

The Ayse Birsel–designed “Mono Box”, a typically achromatic sleek glass vase, was transformed into a maximalist dream—clashing colors and loud patterns and all. Give your favorite florals or greenery a bit of encouragement to stay alive by planting them in a cheery, lively little pot.

“We are delighted and honored to collaborate with Iris Apfel on this year-long campaign,” said Nude Glass’ head of design Emre Bozbeyli. “You can feel her energy and passion in everything that she does, and we are excited to bring you on our journey of discovery with her.”
