To say that the IKEA x Virgil Abloh collaboration may be one of the most anticipated partnerships in the Swedish brand’s history would be a massive understatement. Since it was announced in 2017, we’ve combed through live streams for tidbits of information and followed one-off releases (most recently, Abloh’s $499 Art Event 2019 rug) till they sold out. Now the wait is (finally!) over: The full line will be available to shop on November 1. If you want to get a head start on your planning, we have a sneak peek of the pieces hitting shelves.

The Markerad range, as it’s called, is limited, with only 15 items in the first launch. In terms of silhouette and color palette, it’s not that dissimilar from IKEA’s regular goods—there are a lot of clean lines and neutrals, with an emphasis on natural wood.

But fans of Abloh’s fashion work will recognize a few signatures: otherwise simple pieces underscored by bold colors (like his trademark orange, in tag form on pillows and chaise longues) and quotes so straightforward they verge on sarcastic. For example, a green, Astroturf-like rug with wet grass emblazoned on top or brown paper tote bags with sculpture written on them. “There is always an underlying message in my creations,” says Abloh. “A little bit of irony—and human connection.”

From the simple (a white wall clock with temporary etched across it; oh, the metaphor) to the more unusual (a rug designed to look like an IKEA receipt, for when you want to take your love for the store to more literal lengths), there’s something for everyone within the tight edit of products. And that’s precisely why you need to act fast. The Markerad range will be available in stores only, with a purchase limit of one of each of the 15 items. If you were hoping to scoop up a collection of Abloh-designed clocks, might we suggest befriending someone in the checkout line?
