The guest bathroom in Amber Lewis’s Woodland Hills, California, home might not boast a glamorous soaking tub, spacious double vanity, or marble-lined floor, but despite its lack of fancy amenities, it was the most-liked and most-pinned space the interior designer posted in 2020. Why? We have a hunch the shower wall has something to do with it.
Rather than opt for a full glass enclosure, Lewis only blocked off the side closest to the showerhead with a simple pane, making the room appear larger than it really is. Then there’s the copper border—a standout detail that marks a division of space without blocking the view of the gorgeous zellige tiles. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this sleek shower feature grace our feeds. Here’s a peek at a few more spaces that will make you want to double tap.
The Modern One
Our most-liked bathroom photo from 2020 looks a lot like Lewis’s. Designers Jaclyn Journey and Amanda Jacobs seamlessly divided the shower-tub area from the rest of the room with a simple glass pane set within a slim black steel frame.
The Curvy One
Arches are everywhere—showers included. For Australian firm Decus Interiors, a rounded partition lined in rose gold was the answer to a standard closed-in footprint. This screen’s job is twofold: It prevents one side of the room from getting wet while also softening the rigid lines of the maze-like floor tiles.
The Extra-Roomy One
If there’s one thing to take away from Lewis’s guest bath or this spacious shower by Vivir Design, it’s that white and gray zellige tiles is the way to go. The see-through wall ensures you get the full effect of the textured ceramic squares from every angle.
The Kid-Friendly One
This half-wall setup works whether you’ve got a full-size tub in your shower or if your shower is one with the tub. Brooklyn-based firm Home Studios added a copper and oak railing around this room’s partition to make the two-in-one arrangement “feel a little bit more bespoke.”
