British designer Faye Toogood has done it again. This fall the multidisciplinary maven is releasing the Puffy lounge chair in collaboration with Swedish design brand Hem, a two-tone product marked by its contrasting materials and comforter-like aesthetic. The debut piece in Toogood’s Puffy furniture collection comes out October 7 (priced at $1,875), perfectly timed to the arrival of cooler weather—and our rising anxieties.

“The idea behind the Puffy collection is to emphasize the two almost contradictory ideas at play in the furniture,” says Toogood of her tactile new take on seating design. “First, stability and strength, highlighted by leaving the stainless steel framework on display, and second, comfort and reassurance, in the form of the puffy upholstery.” Described as a “labor of love” by Hem founder and CEO Petrus Palmer, the collection is the result of years of research and design development between the two teams.

The Puffy chair is available in three duvet colors (Anthracite Canvas, Natural Canvas, and Sand Leather) and three steel frames (Sandblasted Stainless Steel, Powder Coated Black Grey, and Powder Coated Cream), so mixing and matching is, if anything, encouraged. The chair’s tubular body holds a canvas sling where the fluffy removable upholstery attaches with ease via eyelet hooks.

Although the unique piece has been in production since 2019, it feels especially fitting in a year where lines between home and work (and now bed and chair) are blurrier than ever before. “Everything does feel like it needs to be softer and warmer now, which has certainly made this chair an excellent fit for the moment,” Toogood exclusively tells Domino. “But there’s always an emotional component to effective design, so we hope we’ve created a piece that can be a source for comfort, both physically and emotionally, not only now but long into the future.”
