Phil Winser

knows a thing or two when it comes to a rustic aesthetic inspired by worldly designs. With an envy-worthy background filled with endless jaunts across the globe, the British-born co-owner of a handful of renowned eateries had few reservations when it came to his creative endeavors. We caught up with Winser for a peek inside NYC hotspot The Fat Radish and all that inspired its bold conception.

Where is your favorite travel destination?

That’s a hard question because travel is one of my passions. Recently, I have been spending a lot of time in Cuba but each country offers such a unique experience that I really cannot pick a favorite.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Always be a gentleman and never play by the rules.

What is your most prized possession?

My Passport

Which artist or creative (past or present) do you most admire?

So many to name just one person. Right now, however, I am inspired by Gardens. I have just been in England and been inspired more specifically by the work of William Kent.

How would you describe yourself?

I am not sure how to describe myself. That’s a hard question. I try to treat everyday as an adventure and try to never stop exploring.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in many things, especially traveling and being outdoors. We incorporate many elements and things I find while abroad into the decor and design of the space. There are many designers, people and brands that I am constantly looking to who share a similar mindset.

What makes you happy?

I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by family and friends. I also love to disconnect and explore new places and cities. I think going off the grid a bit and immersing yourself is important. it is easy to stray from who you are when you are so busy, that surrounding yourself with people and projects that are true to you is crucial.

How does this space make you feel?

When creating a space we strive to make it feel like a home, focusing on creating warm and inviting atmospheres.

When if comes to style what’s the biggest risk you would ever take?

Never get much of a rush from taking risks with style nor been very good at it. I tend to find a style I like and generally stick to it. However, I do adapt in different environments. When I was in my early teens, different story. Wow there were some risks…… I think that’s normal though…
