With a new office space comes ample opportunities for a refresh. Such was the case for team Domino, as we upgraded to bigger and better digs, right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Within our new, open-layout office, the primary goal was to forge a space for a growing team. A built-in kitchen that could double as a fully-functional studio was at the top of our wish list. Read on to get the ultimate scoop on the amazing transformation and see our full kitchen reveal!

Given that our jobs typically entail hours of perusing magazines, Pinterest, and alternate forms of media for inspiration, settling on one specific design scheme for the kitchen was no easy feat. Functionality went without saying, but a timeless aesthetic that could capture a handful of the trends we were coveting was a must. With the help of free renovation matchmaker Sweeten, we set out to plan the layout: merging beauty with functionality at the forefront of our minds.

Many brainstorms, consultations, and mock-ups later, we settled on an aesthetic that would best complement our existing office design – whitewashed with a healthy splash of dusty rose. One that would manage to stand-in as the ideal backdrop for the many in-house photoshoots and videos to come. Once plans were set, Sweeten connected us with the contractors at Best & Company and we got the process started!

We thought we knew a thing or two about design, but there were so many important decisions involved with the kitchen that we really had to trust the advice of our partners to avoid making costly or aesthetic mistakes. It was necessary that our new kitchen was both beautiful and functional – a gorgeous backdrop and useful participant in the many photo shoots to come. First decision – the appliances – all by Bosch Home Appliances. Our top pick – their beautiful 24″ Glass Door Refrigerator. It was refreshingly modern and fit right in with our vision for the surrounding decor.

Taking cues from the seamlessly integrated refrigerator design, we selected one of Bosch’s technologically advanced dishwashers and had Best & Company build it directly into the cabinetry.

A classic white

subway tile

with dark grey grout, by Crossville, would set the backsplash for the modern kitchen, decked with lustrous brass accents, such as these gorgeous sconces by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. The cabinets are a show-stopper, imparting a bold accent that would define the kitchen.

Caesarstone‘s quartz countertops, in Calacatta Nuvo, complemented the subway tile effortlessly, encompassing the decorative elements of the kitchen.

While a major component of the kitchen was to serve our ever-growing staff, it was crucial that it also be a space where we could have the ability to create original content. With that in mind, a camera-friendly setup would ensue. The vision came to life in the form of a kitchen island, with more Bosch appliances built in on one side and an ample Caesarstone countertop space for cooking and entertaining. An electric cooktop was installed, as was our latest culinary must-have: a steam convection oven! We opted for this, in lieu of a traditional oven, due to its ability to simultaneously cook wet and dry. This means, dishes prepared would result in a steamed finish as well as the even brown that comes from baking in a conventional oven. A major plus for the health-conscious!

An additional element which we were particularly excited about was the hidden ventilation system. While most homes feature the classic hood above the stove, our industrial ceilings and need for a streamlined kitchen required a different approach. Enter the Bosch Downdraft, a vent that is embedded within the island and can rise up for cooktop ventilation! Our minimalist-loving hearts were met with great contentment.

A Bosch Built-in Microwave Oven was installed (we managed to squeeze this into the kitchen island as well!), fitting comfortably aside the steam oven with the help of Bosch’s trim kit.

Another major upgrade came in the form of the farmhouse sink and gorgeous brass faucet and drain, all by Kohler. Aside from blending seamlessly in with the neighboring elements, it features ample space for all of our daily office needs. Piles of dirty dishes strictly prohibited!

Perfection comes in the form of the whitewashed details of this serene spot. Subway tiles, a farmhouse sink, and chic brass hardware (thank you Colonial Bronze!) embody our must-have

kitchen trends

of the year!
